Allen Community College played three non-conference softball games in two days and went 2-1.
The Red Devils dominated host Cottey College’s Comets in Nevada, Mo., on Wednesday, winning 19-0 and 17-1. Each game went just five innings.
Allen County was at Maplewoods Community College Thursday, dropping a 10-2 decision in six innings. The second game with Maplewoods was rained out and won’t be rescheduled.
Allen is 25-22 overall. The Red Devils play at Johnson County Community College in Overland Park today in a Jayhawk Eastern Division doubleheader.
Sophomore pitcher Alex Hill threw a no-hit shutout against Cottey College. Hill came within one walk of throwing a perfect game Wednesday against the Comets. She racked up 11 strikeouts.
Allen had a 3-0 lead when it scored five times in the third inning. It added a run in the top of the fifth and retired the Comets in their half of the inning to end the contest.
Ashley Ribelin and Taylor Easum each went 3-for-3 at the plate with two singles and a double. Keelyn Bonar and Hill had two base hits apiece. Kayla Van Vliet and Mary Reilly each hit a single.
The Red Devils led the Comets 5-1 after two innings, then had a seven-run third highlighted by two-run home runs by Maecy Charleston and Easum. Allen added a run in the fourth, then Van Vliet led off the fifth with a solo home run and the Red Devils plated three more runs in the inning.
Erin Schwant went 3-for-5 with two base hits and a double. Ribelin and Lauren Poertner had two singles. Kaylee Lucas and Charleston each had a double.
Hitting a single each were Jamee McEndree, Hill, Bonar, Audra Nelson, Kaitlin Norris, Van Vliet and Easum.
Bonar pitched three innings for the win, giving up a run on two hits and had four strikeouts. Nelson worked two innings, allowing three hits and striking out three.
On Thursday, Maplewoods rolled to an 8-0 lead through three innings. Allen scored two runs in the fifth on a two-run home run by Schwant. Maplewoods had a single run in the fifth and one in the sixth.
Bonar took the pitching loss, going five innings and giving up nine runs on 10 hits. Nelson pitched one-third inning and allowed one run on a hit and two walks.
Hill and Bonar each had two singles. Easum had a single.
